LOCATION : THE PIALLASSA (PO DELTA PARK) MARINA ROMEA 

“Pialassa” derives from the Venetian word “Take and leave”, following precisely this phenomenon linked to tidal movements. The Pialassa Piomboni in general, has a low water depth, and is subject to changing salinity and temperature, both throughout the day and over the course of the seasons. These two parameters heavily affect the life of the plants and animals that populate it.

However, in these areas conditions of exceptional trophism are created and the living beings that manage to adapt develop large populations. wetlands have always represented a difficult environment even for man, who fought them through reclamation until they almost disappeared. On the contrary today, the few that remain, exert a strong attraction, probably due to the abundance of fish in the waters and the splendid and luxuriant avifauna present. The “people of the Valley” today glide over the waters of the Pialassa with special flat-bottomed boats called “Battane”.

They would colonise the banks with “stilt huts” equipped with the unmistakable “Padelloni”, large fishing nets that are hoisted from the water, capturing the rich lagoon fish fauna.
